Harry Marsland, retired optometrist and 'retired' from being an AMD patient
Dear Colleagues
“I developed AMD at the age of 67 and after losing central vision in one eye that year I decided not to lose it in the other one as well. Consequently I am the first, but not the only, person to achieve this ambition. I no longer suffer from AMD! My next ambition is to ensure that AMD is better understood. Nearly every day I am contacted by people telling me that they have been told, correctly, they have dry AMD and told, incorrectly, that they will inevitably lose their sight.
My studies, research and recovery took me to meet Dr John Nolan of the Macular Disease Research Group at the Waterford Institute of Technology. I have now, after twenty years of retirement, received accreditation to deliver a PowerPoint lecture on Age-Related Macular Degeneration.”
Harry H. Marsland, F.B.O.A.
Mr Marsland’s inaugural lecture will be at the Talbot Hotel, New Street, Oundle, at 11.00 a.m. on Sunday, 1st March 2009.

I encourage you to attend this lecture. Mr Marsland’s experience as an optometrist gives a unique insight of the patient’s perspective of AMD. Furthermore, his vision has improved!
