I am off again! This time to Burkina Faso
Six weeks from now, while some of you shall be sitting in your testing rooms twiddling your thumbs due to the lack of volume in the run up to Christmas, I shall be more than fully booked and probably not have enough time to test all the patients lining up to see me!
I am off on a Vision Aid Overseas trip to Burkina Faso for the first two weeks of December. Burkina Faso is a French speaking country in West Africa, neighbouring Ghana.
There are eight of us going and while I am there I shall be testing eyes and dispensing spectacles in improvised clinics. They shall be far from the comforts of the testing room that I am used to and a lot more gruelling. The typical patients would have walked miles and miles to come to our clinics and shall be queuing up for days in hope to be seen by the ‘specialists’ that are coming with spectacles to help them.
Presently I am learning how to test in French and also trying to raise as much money as I can for the project. I am nervous but also very excited and looking forward to putting my skills to use.

Hello Priya. I wish you all the best. You are doing a great thing. My American money isnt going a long way these days but I did want to shoot an idea at you. I have many brand new frames. I was in the eyewear business for a while and even though it didnt go well at all, I did keep many, many frames. If you know of an organization that could use frames like this I would be willing to donate half of the proceeds at about any reasonable price to you. We will split it. They are good Italian frames and I used to sell them in large quantities for about $14.usd until I bought 100,000 units at $7. and saturated my customers. I dont really have the time nor the desire to find new clients to sell to and it seems like recovering all my investment is barely worth the effort. I hope this will help you think of something ( Im all out of ideas). Either way keep up the good work.
