Student fees

In principal I don’t agree with the burden that parent’s face in funding third level education.  At 18, student’s can vote, drink and get married.  Yet parents are still expected to fund their children at university well into their twenties.  And despite this, most are leaving university faced with massive debt

As the profession gets ready for the influx of newly qualified optometrists joining the profession, bringing fresh ideas and enthusiasm, how many of them are faced with several years ahead of them in the red?  Optometry may be a profession with good prospects and a comfortable salary, but I feel angered that so many are still faced with this burden.

I am not a politican, but what happened to the value this country once placed in its high standard of university education?

Hi Jane, Well thats a political hot potato isnt it? Having looked at the subject recently it seems it stems from the Universities. Universities said - and still say - they need more money. However, The government says graduates benefit from having gained a degree - through wider career opportunities and earnings - so ought to contribute something. (for further reading have a look at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/3013272.stm)

So who is it that said what and who wins?
