How to interview - Part Three

So we are now prepared, have a long list of questions to ask and are about to go for the 200510469_001.jpginterview. But how are we? Nervous? Excited? Bit of both?

All of these emotions are natural and are to be expected, to be honest if you weren’t any of the above then it would be a cause for concern because if you are not nervous or excited then is this the right role for you?

So lets assume that you are in the interview - how do we make sure that we have the best opportunity of being offered the role?

Well the first things to consider are what we have already prepared, which are:

  • Company information
  • Appropriate questions

If we have all this information in place then we are not going to be caught out by anything unexpected so we now need to focus on how to conduct ourselves and there are some golden rules in this area:

  1. Be enthusiastic yet controlled
  2. Don’t interrupt
  3. Ask predominantly open questions
  4. Don’t fidget
  5. Take a pen and paper in to take notes
  6. Don’t focus on salary & benefits within the first meeting

With these guidelines in place we should have every opportunity of being successful - we just now need to close the interview properly. Now this subject tends to be somewhat of an alien concept to most people so I will detail a very basic process which will help you.

When the interview is finishing and presumably you are happy with the job on offer you need to make the client aware of this by saying something along the lines of:

“Thank you very much for your time today. I am very keen to progress with this role and I look forward to hearing from you.”

This will make the client aware that you are keen and finish the interview nicely. So this concludes the series on how to interview, if anyone requires any further advice within this area please feel free to contact me using the details on the contact us page.

Good Luck

David.
