Agencies - What do you do?

After speaking to a number of companies over the course of the week, it appears that there is a gulf in what people think agencies or consultancies do in order to find suitable people for their roles and what we have to do in order to find the right person. So the question is “what do agencies do?”


The most common line we hear is that all we do is take a job spec, do a few searches, forward some CV’s and then charge a fee never to be seen or heard of again. Rightly or wrongly this appears to be the overall consensus on how we conduct business and it is this which we have to battle every day.

I am not going to describe our processes on this blog however needless to say that we, as a direct result of our memberships and affiliations of which we are very proud, have to adhere to a much higher standard. So how do we as a consultancy differentiate ourselves from this misconception, the other agencies and ultimately add value to the sector?

The obvious answer is to demonstrate we are different from the competition through our processes and ultimately results but also to point to our testimonial sections where people can independently see what people think of our services, afterall word of mouth is one of the most powerful advertising tools.

Having worked within the sector for some years now, I fully acknowledge that it is difficult to reverse some peoples misconceptions about our industry however it always make me smile to remember a quote from a candidate who said “Thank-you so much for all your help, I was concerned about the next step into practice from hospital, & you addressed my needs, provided sound advice & reassurance; and as it seems have found me my ideal position!! I will highly recommend you & Flamehealth to my optom friends!!
