How to Interview - Part One
So then, this week we are going to tackle the subject of how to interview. This series will be aimed at people who are looking for a job rather than employers (that series will follow on) and will cover all the aspects of interviewing. So then, where do we start?
The most common problem we find with interviewing is people either dont prepare enough or dont preprare in the right areas, as a result they go into the interview unprepared and nervous or over confident but in the wrong area both of which are dont get us where we want to go.
The first rule of “How to Interview” is Preparation, Preparation, Preparation. What we are looking for is as complete an understanding of your potential new employers business as possible. Now I appreciate that this maybe a bit vague so here are some pointers:
- How long have they been established?
- What is their core business?
- How big a company are they?
- What are their Unique selling points?
- Where do they place themsleves within the Optical Market?
Now, that is not a exhaustive list but will give you a flavour of what direction to go in. Once we have the relevant information, we can then start to gain a understanding of what the company is like and what questions to ask within the interview in addition to having a more complete picture of whether they are the sort of company you would like to work for.
Next stage to follow.
David.
