Clinical Conundrums: Case history 6 The latent hypermetrope

Published October 22nd, 2007 by Jane Macnaughton.

As a locum I occasionally come across previous practitioner’s work which raises an eyebrow. However, I came across this young man recently:
Age 10, routine review, asymptomatic.
Previous practitioner reports: +0.50 R&L. No Rx given.
Today the findings were –
RV   6/5   +1.50 =   6/5
LV   6/5   +1.50 =   6/5

I am off again! This time to Burkina Faso

Published October 18th, 2007 by Priya Morjaria.

Six weeks from now, while some of you shall be sitting in your testing rooms twiddling your thumbs due to the lack of volume in the run up to Christmas, I shall be more than fully booked and probably not have enough time to test all the patients lining up to see me!

Hello I’m […]

Sub clinical or Sub Standard?

Maybe I just attract problems into my clinics. Maybe there is a sign on my door saying..
“problems…then step this way
In the last 2 weeks, I have seen 5 patients who suffer with Myasthenia Gravis. One patient looked at me shocked when I said I knew what it was as his neurologist had only seen 1 […]

Now an Optom but never an OO

Published October 2nd, 2007 by Jane Macnaughton.

Being plain ignorant has no excuses. For example, Scotch Salmon just conjures up images of the poor fish basted in whisky. I prefer Scottish Salmon after all and support the Scots rather than the Scotch as they run out onto the playing field. Leave the ‘Scotch’ in the bottle, please.
I read a UK article recently […]
